Author's
comment: Of all the mvs that were left to me as a prompt, I
decided to use a summer one because the delivery date was in summer and I had
wanted to do something of this style for a long time, although it has not been
particularly good for me. I hope you like it.
"Turn
off your cell phones and put them in here," Haseul said, pointing to an
open chest on the living room table. “No buts,” she added as Yeojin opened her
mouth to reply. “We are supposed to be here to have a good time and to
disconnect and we have brought a lot of cameras, analogical and polaroids, you
don't need mobile phones at all.”
Jungeun
heard some protests in the group, but in the end, one by one they turned off their
phones and left it inside the chest until the last one —Yeojin who did it very
reluctantly— released hers and the chest was locked, a key that Haseul hung by
the neck. Other protests, this time from Hyejoo, were heard about a game that she
had to enter every day or she would lose her rewards, but Jungeun paid no
attention to these and simply went to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of
cold water from the tap. She didn't particularly like having to leave her phone
behind because she was sure she was going to have a mono or be bored to death
on those days when they were going to be at Haseul's family's beach house, but
she knew perfectly well that if she had asked them to release them, it was
because she had prepared a lot of things for them. As she poured herself the
water, Jungeun thought that the vacation that she had thought would not be very
different from the previous year was probably going to be a little different.
Lost in her thoughts, she hadn't realized that one of the girls had followed
her to the place, so when she saw Jinsol, one of Haseul's classmates, with whom
she didn't have much contact, just a few steps from her, she was scared to
death and almost knocked the glass to the ground. At the last millisecond she
pulled herself together and gripped the glass tighter, bringing her other hand
to her chest, feeling her heart beat rapidly inside it in shock.
"My
goodness, Jinsol, you almost scared me to death," she told her, causing
the oldest of her to crack a smile.
"You're
too young to be scared to death," she replied, sitting down on the counter
across from her.
Jungeun
wrinkled her nose in a grimace directed at the oldest that caused her to smile
again, this time more broadly, causing her heart to skip a beat on that
occasion. Confused, but not wanting to know what that meant, she began to drink
water to quench her thirst and not have to think about anything else,
especially not to have to think about Jinsol and that beautiful smile of hers.

"What
strangest combination is this?" Yerim commented, seeing who her roommates
were. She had taken the question out of Jungeun's mouth. In the place, in
addition to the two of them, there were also Jinsol and Kahei, two people whom
neither of them knew particularly well, moreover, Jungeun did not even know
Yerim that well. The group that had gone on vacation to Haseul's summer house
had increased in size that year and, although they were all related because
they had seen each other several times before, they really weren't that close
that they could be in smaller groups and not feel a little nervous and
uncomfortable.
"An
enchantress so we can all get to know each other better," Jinsol said in
response to Yerim, however, her gaze was fixed on Jungeun.
She
couldn't do anything but look away from her and pretend she was looking at the
room they had to share. It had four small beds in it and a huge closet where
they could store all the clothes they had brought for the days they were going
to be there. They didn't need much else either, it's not like they were going
to spend much time inside because Haseul's family's beach house was literally
the beach house, because it had access to a small private cove that couldn't be
accessed from no other place than the path that led to that huge house that
also had a swimming pool in the garden, in case one day there were too many
waves and they couldn't get into the sea. For all that and because surely
Haseul had planned a thousand more things to do, she did not think they were
going to spend so much time in the room that their stay in the place would be
uncomfortable because they did not know each other too well or know if they had
things in common or not.

Although
Jungeun was lying in a hammock below a shade provided by a small roof that had
been placed with some fabrics and supports, quietly reading a book while the
others played beach volleyball or bathed in the sea, the heat and the the sun's
flame reflecting on the white sand at her feet, made the girl feel that her
skin burned as if the sun was hitting her directly, causing burns and turning
her completely red, as if it were the shell of a crab. Knowing that even if the
sun wasn't hitting her directly, the heat of the environment could also cause her
to burn that way, she had no choice but to put the book down and apply
sunscreen for the third time that morning. First the face, with a special cream
for the area, and then the arms, the chest, the stomach, the legs, distributing
the cream well over all the areas, leaving only the back, which was the only
place where she had to juggling to be able to put the cream on and still
probably not put it on properly. That morning, Jiwoo had put it on her so she
wouldn't have any problems and then she had run to get under the sun, playing
in the water with Sooyoung, later, Jungeun had lost sight of both of them and,
from experience, she knew that when those two they disappeared, it was much
better not to look for them —she still had nightmares from the time she had
made the mistake of doing it, finding Jiwoo naked and Sooyoung with her face
between her legs—. Jungeun was about to get up to ask Chaewon, who was in the
shade with her under her roof, to put the cream on her back when Jinsol
suddenly appeared before her, grinning from ear to ear.
"Do
you want me to help you put the cream on your back and then you help me?"
She asked her. “The sun is starting to sting while I play volleyball with the
others and I don't want to get burned.”
Jungeun
opened her mouth to reply that there was no need, but ended up closing it
because she couldn't reject her in that plain and simple way either because she
felt a little nervous being around the eldest and didn't know if she was going
to be able to stand the session of applying cream at each other. She finally
agreed to what Jinsol had told her and Jinsol took the tube of cream from her
hands and stood behind her, beginning to delicately rub the skin of her back
with her fingertips, causing Jungeun to feel a shiver run through her entire
body, traveling her spine from top to bottom. She had to clench her teeth for
the scant minute that it lasted because Jinsol's fingers were long and burned
against her skin even though the cream was rather cold and she had to hold her
own hands from doing anything unnecessary when Jinsol finished, she sat in
front of her, on the sand, with her back to her, so that she would return the
favor because what her intrepid hands wanted most was to touch more and more of
that white and fine skin.
Jinsol
thanked her for the help and then applied cream to the rest of her body herself
before going back into the sun to continue playing volleyball with the others
and Jungeun picked up her book and tried to pick up the thread of what she had
been reading up until the moment… however, a certain figure playing beach
volleyball in front of her didn't let her concentrate on the damn book again.

"Okay,
lovely friends," Haseul said, clapping her hands in the air to get
everyone's attention. “As those of you who have been here before know well, it
is tradition to have a water gun fight in the pool and today is the day”.
Her
friend said that with great excitement, an excitement that only infected half
of those present. Jungeun had gone to that house other years and they had had
that water gun fight to hang out and have fun and the reality is that the hours
flew by while they played in the water, but the girl preferred not to have to
be sharing the space with Jinsol more than necessary —since the cream incident she
had only been in the same space as her to eat and sleep because it was
inevitable— and, in the water gun fight they would be in the same place, in the
pool, and most likely they would have to interact even if they hadn't fallen on
the same team. A while before, while the sun was still too hot to go out under
it, they had made time at home after lunch to split into two teams of six and
by the grace of fate, Heejin had chosen her for her team while Hyunjin had
chosen Jinsol, so at least they wouldn't have to strategize together. However,
Jungeun had a feeling that even though she tried to avoid getting close to
Jinsol as much as possible, the other was going to do her best to do the
opposite. Getting away wasn’t an option, the only thing she had to do was
endure the downpour and try to enjoy the game and forget about the strange way
she made her feel.
Air-inflating
the pizza slice-shaped mats that would be used as barricades in the game was an
arduous task that flew by as everyone helped and took turns not running out of
air and preparing the water guns to have them loaded for the firs round of the
game was fun because there was always one of the girls who would get mischief
and start wetting the others with the excuse of “keeping them cool” because it
was so hot. It was fun, both the preparations and the water gun war, Jungeun
had a really good time despite the fact that on several occasions she ended up
swallowing water due to Jinsol's too accurate attacks and despite the fact that
maybe and just maybe, these had been so accurate because she hadn't been able
to concentrate on the game, just gawking at the eldest shimmering in the sun
every time she laughed heartily.

Wanting
peace and quietness so that she could put her thoughts and feelings in order in
a house where she was living with eleven other people was something that
Jungeun knew was impossible to achieve, but even going to the beach at night to
observe the blackness of the sea only illuminated by the dim light emitted by
the crescent moon and only listening to the sound of the waves breaking against
the shore didn’t have the peace and tranquillity that she was looking for. It
had only been a couple of minutes since she had sat down on the dry sand when she
heard footsteps behind her and saw the figure of her best friend approaching
her. Jungeun sighed heavily because her moment of peace was over now that Jiwoo
was there.
"What
are you doing here in the lonely solitude of the beach?" Asked the girl as
soon as she arrived, sitting next to her.
“To
think.”
"In
Jinsol?"
“Yes.”
Jungeun
took a moment to answer the second question, but she answered truthfully
because she knew perfectly well that Jiwoo must have noticed something was up,
so there was no point in hiding it. Her friend gave her a smile that Jungeun
easily translated as “tell me everything” and in the end she ended up talking
to her. She told her how whenever she had met Jinsol because she was with
Haseul she had seemed like a beautiful and fun girl, but she had never thought
anything beyond that, but since they had started that vacation all together, she
hadn’t been able to help it and realize that perhaps what she thought and felt
went much further. She hadn't wanted to admit it to herself in those days, but
probably the best thing she could do was say it out loud and wait for Jiwoo to
help her understand, because it was clear that she was in a mess and needed
that help.
"I
thought it must be something like that," Jiwoo replied as soon as she
finished telling her everything. “I think you don't need me to tell you what
you have to do because you know perfectly well” she commented, “but what you
should know is that it's not only you who is interested in Jinsol, she is also
interested in you”.
Jungeun
wanted to reply that this couldn't be possible, but the way Jiwoo had said it,
so convinced, made her stay silent and just go back to her thoughts, thoughts
that told her to stop running and to face what was in front of her because it
was the only way in which everything she felt when Jinsol was around her would
be resolved, although it was not an easy thing and she had to think about it
and get used to the idea that everything was going to be change, for better or
for worse.

The
few days they spent at Haseul's house on vacation were too short for Jungeun
that time and the last night had already arrived, the next day they would
return to Seoul again and the time on the beach would remain as one more memory
in their busy lives. It had been only two days since she had spoken with Jiwoo,
but now she was at the crossroads of what she should do, whether to talk to
Jinsol on that last night or leave it as impossible... at least she would have
alcohol to help her decide. The room had been decorated with some streamers and
balloons, with loud music blasting through the room, and they had sat in the
huge chaise longue with their drinks on the low table across from it and,
finally, they had their phones after Haseul had taken them out of the chest
moments before and returned them, some had missed them more than others,
Jungeun had hardly even thought about not having it because her mind had been
much more focused on Jinsol, on observing her and avoiding her, than in
anything else, Jinsol, who was currently sitting next to her, their knees and
arms brushing each time they moved and causing Jungeun to not know how to
behave, what to do, simply filling out a and again his red plastic cup with
alcohol and soda. Around her everything began to flow as if at a different time
after several glasses, much faster than it should and the girl began to feel a
little dizzy after a while, too hot to be able to stand being in that room with
so much people and finally decided to get up and leave the house, towards the
garden, where the pool was, to get some fresh air. She walked to the pool and
decided to put her legs in the water a little so that the freshness of it would
help her.
“Are
you okay?” a familiar voice asked her a few moments later. Jungeun turned
towards the house, seeing Jinsol walk out of it and walk to the edge of the
pool.
"I
feel better," she answered, being out there in the open air and with her
legs in the water had made her feel better. “I think the alcohol had gone to my
head too quickly.”
"I've
seen you drink one glass after another very quickly," the older commented,
sitting down next to her in the pool. “Is there something that worries you or
that does not let you be comfortable?” She asked her. “I know that we are not
exactly friends, that we only know each other because Haseul is friends with
both of us, but if you have something you want to get out of your head, here I
am… sometimes it is much easier to do it with someone you don't know than with
a friend.”
Jungeun
couldn't help but go blank, just looking at Jinsol's face next to her for a few
moments, not knowing what to do and not knowing what to say... until the too
drunk part of her brain took control of her body's actions and made her do
crazy. Jinsol was sitting very close to hers, so she didn't have to try too
hard to lean towards her and plant a kiss on her lips that left the elder
paralyzed, even after Jungeun moved away from her.
"I've
been thinking about you too much these days and I think I like you, but I
didn't know if I should tell you or not... since you told me I could tell you
what was on my mind... I..." she murmured, the damage It was already done
because he had just kissed her, so saying it was the only option left to her. “I
don't expect any answer, I just wanted to tell you.”
Jinsol
seemed to come out of her reverie after that and gave Jungeun a smile, a
completely charming smile that made the girl feel more nervous than she had
ever felt in her entire life. However, that nervousness ended as soon as it
began because Jinsol leaned towards her, bridging the small distance that
remained between their bodies, giving her a short, soft, sweet kiss, thus
responding to the kiss that Jungeun had given her before.
"I've
been interested in you for a long time," Jinsol confessed, still so close
to her face that she could feel her breath against her lips. “So… my answer is
this… I want to get to know you more, Jungeun.”
Jungeun
couldn't help but smile at that and, for the first time since she had come to
that house, she relaxed in Jinsol's presence. They still had many things to
talk about, they still had to see what was going on between them, get to know
each other better and see if something could work... but at least now her mind
had stopped denying what she felt being with the older and had accepted all
that jumble of thoughts and sensations when she was around, although the way
she had done it had been a little crazy and when she got over the drunkenness
she was sure she would die of shame for what had just happened; however, she
was happy and excited about the next thing that would happen between them.
